“In the Cardiothoracic ICU, we saw a need to improve patient and team member safety when lifting patients who have come from the OR with an open sternum. A colleague and I worked with an interdisciplinary team of wound care, ergonomics, acute care providers and an intensivist, and the bedside nurses, to create a lifting process that had not been done anywhere else. We are now able to safely lift patients to assess and implement interventions for pressure injuries.”
